Category: Let's talk
Awhile ago, as some of you mayremember, I wrote about the Brain Port, a device that lets you seewith your tongue. The images from it seemed very clear and accurate, even allowing people to read things. Today, I was looking at the vOICe from

I'd known about it for a few years but didn't have a web cam at the time so could only work with scanned images. Then, I got a Macbook, but the software's not compatible with Leopard. Now that I have my netbook with a built-in camera, I want to try it again. But I'd like to really know about the results I might have. I know it's different for everyone and I've heard some interviews and stories but these were all from people who'd previously seen. I lost my sight at two-months-old and don't even have light perception. Has anyone in a similar situation used this software and if so, how did it turn out foryou? What kinds of things were you able to see what what patterns were you able to distinguish? How do I set up my gear so that I can walk around with it? My main concern is lightness, the quality of the camera and the battery life. But this is for the future. For the next few days, I just wanna play around with my built-in cam and see what I could see.
Finally, is anyone here lucky enough to have used the Brain Port? It's a dream of mine to have one. If so, how did it compare to the vOICe in terms of vision? What do you think would happen if both systems were used sylmultaniously? Would it be an overload on the brain or would it merely provide more vision? Do any other systems exist for synthetic vision?
